Applied directly to your face or body, infused oils—vegetable oils in which herbs have been steeped—have moisturizing and other therapeutic benefits. This hand salve uses sweet almond oil, which tends to be lighter and feel less greasy than many other vegetable oils.
To create the herb-infused oil, fill a glass jar about ¾ full with dried lavendar. Pour the sweet almond oil over the herbs to fill the jar so that herbs are completely submerged. Cap the jar and allow herbs to soak in a warm, sunny location for 4 to 6 weeks. Strain the oil carefully into clean, dry amber bottles and store for up to 1 year.
8 oz lavender-infused sweet almond oil
1 oz beeswax, grated
4 vitamin E capsules
10 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops rosemary essential oil
1. HEAT the infused oil gently in a double boiler over low heat.
2. ADD the beeswax and stir until melted.
3. REMOVE the pan from the heat, and stir in the contents of the vitamin E capsules and the essential oils.
4. POUR the salve into clean, dry tins. When the salve has cooled completely, put the caps on the tins. Label and store them in a cool, dry location for up to 1 year.
