Cress Benefits and How to Grow at Home

Ibn Al Qayyim (rahimuAllah) said that cress is beneficial for the following;

Warming and softening the belly,
Reducing inflammation of the spleen when combined with honey,
Preventing hair loss,
Increasing appetite,
Asthma and clearing the lungs.

He also said that if cress seeds are crushed and drunk with hot water, this is beneficial for colic and vitiligo (a chronic condition that causes pale, white patches to develop on the skin).

Cress (botanical name Lepidum sativum) is commonly known as garden cress and is closely related to mustard and watercress In urdu it is called Kaho. It is an edible plant that, when fully grown, has a peppery flavour and aroma similar to mustard and watercress. It is typically harvested when very young, at the cotyledon leaf stage.

Garden cress contains significant amounts of iodine, iron, calcium, folic acid and vitamins A and C. It is also a source of phytochemicals and antioxidants. It’s the iodine content in cress which is so valuable to the human body in today’s day and age.

According to a study funded by Australia’s Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC), the anti cancer effects of garden cress far outweighed that of other green vegetables tested (the study was conducted on cress vs. some common species of brassicas).

How to Grow Cress.

Cress is very easy to grow. It can be grown all year round in any country, indoors or in the garden in Spring. When grown indoors, either seed trays or wet cotton wool in pots are usually used. It is often grown by children as their first introduction to gardening.

To grow cress in seed trays, lightly sprinkle the seeds onto wet cotton wool or a few layers of wet kitchen paper. Keep the seeds moist throughout germination and place the tray in a bright spot, like a south facing windowsill.

The seeds should begin to sprout in around 2 days. Insha’Allah in 5-7 days, the cress should be ready to harvest.

How to use cress.

Both the leaves and stems of cress can be eaten raw in salads or sandwiches, and are sometimes called cress sprouts. They are delicious and as with all sprouted seeds, they are loaded with vitamins and minerals. Eating raw garden cress is beneficial for women with irregular or suppressed menstruation. It is also very beneficial for them when cooked in soups.

According to Ibn Al Qayyim (rahimuAllah) for the treatment of hair loss, the juice of young garden cress is massaged on the scalp and hair. It can be extracted using a juicer. It is also beneficial for hair loss if it is consumed.

The crushed seeds can be steeped in boiling water for 10 mins and drunk as a hot infusion for the treatment of viscous phlegm build up in the chest and lungs (bronchitis, chest infections) by helping the patient cough it out. This decoction also benefits asthma sufferers as does eating raw cress in general.

According to Ibn Al Qayyim (rahimuAllah), patients with sciatica can make a pomade of cress leaves, barley stems and halaal vinegar (blend them to a paste in a food processor) and apply this mixture to the affected area, wrapping it with cling film so that it does not dry out. My personal advice is to leave it for an hour, then wash it off. Used with Hijaama wet cupping, Allah will bring relief insha’Allah.

کشیدگی کا استعمال کیسے کریں.
سلیڈس یا سینڈوچ میں دونوں پتیوں کی پتیوں اور تھاموں کو خام کھایا جا سکتا ہے، اور کبھی کبھی کبھی تکلیف کے پھونکوں کو بلایا جاتا ہے. وہ مزیدار اور تمام برواں بیج کے ساتھ ہیں، وہ وٹامن اور معدنیات سے بھری ہوئی ہیں. خام باغ کی کچی کھاتے ہوئے عورتوں کے لئے غیر قانونی یا پریشان ہونے والے مہاسرین کے ساتھ فائدہ مند ہے. سوپ میں پکایا جب ان کے لئے یہ بہت فائدہ مند ہے.

بال الہی کے علاج کے لئے ابن القیوم (رضی اللہ عنہ) کے مطابق، نوجوان باغ کے جوس کا جوس کھوپڑی اور بالوں پر مساجد ہے. یہ juicer کا استعمال کرتے ہوئے نکالا جا سکتا ہے. بالوں کا نقصان کے لئے یہ فائدہ مند ہے اگر اسے استعمال ہوتا ہے.

کچلنے والے بیج 10 منٹ کے لئے ابلتے ہوئے پانی میں گھس سکتے ہیں اور چھت اور پھیپھڑوں (برونچائٹس، سینے کے انفیکشنوں) میں مریضوں کی کھانوں کی مدد سے اس کی چھٹیوں کے علاج کے لئے ایک گرم آلودگی کے طور پر نشے میں پھینک دیا جا سکتا ہے. عام طور پر خام تکلیف کھانے کے طور پر یہ کمی بھی دمہ کے شکار ہیں.

ابن القییمی (رضی اللہ عنہ) کے مطابق، اسکیوٹیکیا کے مریضوں کو کچن کی پتیوں، جڑیوں کی سٹروں اور ہلکی سرکہ (انہیں کھانے کے پروسیسر میں ایک پیسٹ ملاتے ہیں) کا ایک لمحہ بنا سکتا ہے اور اس مرکب کو متاثر کن علاقے میں لاگو کر سکتے ہیں لہذا یہ خشک نہیں ہوتا. میرا ذاتی مشورہ اسے ایک گھنٹہ تک چھوڑنا ہے، پھر اسے دھونا. حج جملی کے ساتھ استعمال کیا جاتا ہے، اللہ انشاء اللہ راحت لائے گا.

11 Remedies for 11 Body Problems

Following are 11 remedies for 11 common problem of a body everyone face in life.

1. For Healthy Skin

For healthy skin, one should splash cold rose water on his/her face twice a day at least. If you want to do more, then you can make a mixture of turmeric commonly known as haldi, lemon juice, gram flour commonly known as basin from which pakkora are made mixed with rose water and apply it to the face twice a week.

2. Weight Loss

Take 15 small sips from mixture of neem and warm water before getting out of your bed. Having breakfast is a must and have healthy snack like apples with you. You need to eat them every two hours to keep your metabolism running.

3. Body Odor

Fill half bucket with water and put powdered alum commonly known as phatkari in it. Now put one peppermint crystal in it. Peppermint crystal can be found in any jariboti shop easily. Rinse your body with this water after completing your shower to get rid of any bad body odor.

4. Healthy Hair

Take a clay bowl and fill it with water when new moon appears. Dip the ends of your hair in it and cut the ends of hair still dipped in water. This will give you the healthiest hair you ever had in your life.

5. Depression

Wash and finely chop a spinach leaf, heat it over flame till it dries. Now mix it with some black pepper and lemon. Use a tablespoon every morning and all your depression will be gone with the wind.

6. Glowing Skin

This is not some materialistic totka. It belongs to your inside. For glowing skin, you must have a glowing heart. A happy and big heart shows up on your face. You have to be fair internally to look fair on your outside.

7. Fair Knees and Elbows

If you have problem with knees and elbows darkness or discoloration, all you have to do is to cut a lemon in two pieces and put sugar in it. Now rub this lemon on your elbows and knees followed by the application of some petroleum jelly. Afterwards wipe all the sugar and petroleum jelly with the help of a towel soaked in hot water to find soft and fair skin in these parts.

8. Aching Feet

People using heels have often problem of aching feet. Take a shower and afterwards apply some mustard oil on your big toes from top to bottom. Massage for a few minutes which will help circulation of blood and you will get rid of aches and pain in your feet.

9. Bad Breath

This is common with smokers but generally it is a problem with all people. Take husk (ispaghol) every morning in a glass of warm water. It will regulate your digestive system and you can have the solution for bad breath. Bad breath is caused by bad digestive system. Another tip is to boil three raisins (kishmish) along with three small cardamoms (elaichi) and three mint leaves (pudina) in water and strain. Use this water to gargle every morning or you can drink this water in evening time as well. It will help you get rid of bad breath.

10. Sunburn

Easily available herb Aloe Vera is the best solution for sunburn. It is easy to find and abundant in our country so it can be used as a free solution for sunburn.

11. Dandruff Problem

Apple Cider vinegar is one of the best remedies recommended for dandruff. Take water and apple cider vinegar in equal quantities and mix one cup of water and one cup of apple cider vinegar and rinse it through your hair. Let it settle to the bottom of your hair for like 10 minutes. You can massage the scalp and you will notice that regular use of this tip will get you rid of dandruff.

1 tablespoon full-cream, simple yogurt
1 tablespoon honey

2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
5 drops of rose oil
2 tablespoons honey
